Tomato Leafminer (Tuta absoluta) is an invasive pest of tomato crop. Its primary host is tomato, but other crops from the Solanaceae family such as potato, brinjal and common bean are also hosts. It has a high reproduction potential. Each female may lay up to 300 creamy-coloured eggs and 10-12 generations can be produced each year. In tomatoes, it can attack at any stage of crop life and causes 100% crop destruction, although the larvae prefer apical buds, tender new leaflets, flowers, and green fruits. Thereafter, this pest has become a major concern in tomato crops and also a threat to other crops of the Solanaceae family.

We have developed ‘Pheromone Tablet Technology’ for Tuta absoluta. It is IPM (integrated pest management) based technology; ensures the minimal use of chemical pesticides and effective control of Tuta absoluta pest. It is safe, effective and environmental friendly. It does not leave the toxic residues on leaves and fruits of tomato crop.

  • How to use lures and Traps?
    • Fold the delta trap properly, to make triangular shape.
    • Put tablet lure on the center of the delta trap surface.
    • Using metal wire or thread hang the delta trap containing pheromone tablet at the crop height, just above the canopy.
    • Use 8-12 traps per acre.
    • Replace the tablet lure traps after 30 to 40 or when the catch is reduced significantly or there is no catch.
    • Replace the delta trap when the surface gets covered with the trapped Tuta absoluta.

    Precautions for using Tablet lure with Delta trap:

    • Remove the tablet from the pack only before fixing traps in the field.
    • Do not touch the tablet multiple times.
    • Traps should be kept at a place away from the reach of children.
